"Cold fusion," the controversial process by which energy is extracted from heavy water by palladium electrodes (creating a nuclear reaction that produces heat, but no radiation), promises to be the ultimate renewable energy source. By the time I finished viewing this video, however, I was thoroughly confused. It was my understanding that the theory had been thoroughly debunked by the scientific community some time ago. Yet the producers of this video (Dr. Eugene Mallove and Jed Rothwell of Infinite Energy magazine) claim that not only does the phenomenon exist but it's been demonstrated time and again. And they trot out some heavyweight names to bolster their claim, including noted author Sir Arthur C. Clarke, and enlist the aid of narrator James "Scotty" Doohan (of Star Trek fame), who adds celebrity power to the effort. While it would certainly be wonderful if cold fusion turns out to be real, I suspect we'll have to wait for additional proof. Meanwhile, people will want to see this and draw their own conclusions. Recommended. (S. Fisher)
