When Doug was a child, his grandfather molested him for several years. Brian suffered sexual abuse at the hands of a Catholic priest as a teenager. Conversations on Sexual Abuse: Doug and Brian is a straightforward, no-frills program, in which the two men, now aged 17 and 29 respectively, engage in a frank half-hour conversation about their experiences. Many questions are tackled, some specific to male abuse: Who should I tell, and will I be believed? Can you truly heal without justice ever being served? How does this affect my sexual orientation? Despite the differences in age and circumstance, both men find much common ground, especially when discussing the difficult and ongoing healing process. Though the price is a bit steep for what is essentially mostly unedited footage of two guys talking on a couch, the subjects they discuss--and therefore hopefully enable viewers to talk about--makes this a solid tool, both for abuse survivors and for those who can help them. Recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (E. Gieschen)
