While a host of tapes have been released on childbearing and raising infants, few videos have been targeted towards parents of adolescents. These two programs are produced by one of the nation's leading homes for troubled youth. In the first title, parents are given practical suggestions for handling rebellious behavior and temper flare-ups. Five steps are necessary: 1) praise your child (for the good things he/she does), 2) state your expectations, 3) set clear consequences, 4) spend time together, and 5) be patient. Dramatizations of typical situations are shown--and throughout, it is repeatedly emphasized to not give in to anger, and to remain firm in the reduction of privileges for inappropriate behaviors. The second title, "Homework", uses some of the same principles, but focuses on specific actions that a parent can take to make sure that children do their homework. Both titles are accompanied by a booklet which expands on the ideas presented in the tape. Both titles are recommended. (Available from: Boys Town Videos, Public Service Division, Boys Town, NE 68010; orders of three or more tapes reduces the price to $39.95 per tape).
