With the millennium approaching, conspiracy theories are sprouting up like weeds. According to this program, America's democracy has been undermined and betrayed by a new world order hatched secretly on Georgia's Jekyll Island, where the Federal Reserve was created in 1913. A network of one-worlders, international bankers and financiers, manipulated America into two world wars (as well as Vietnam), created the conditions which led to world-wide Depression in the '30's, engaged in drug dealing, and covertly selected and removed (by murder) any American leader who dare oppose their plans. The video identifies the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission, and the Bilderberg Conference on international relations as co-conspirators. According to the "investigators" quoted here, the "plot" actually long predates 1913 (of course, when you hear Depression era demagogues Father Charles Coughlin and Huey Long being quoted, you know the evidence is hardly new either). This video is more slickly produced than some other conspiracy tales, but it resorts to citing authorities like the far right journal The Spotlight, and even resurrects corny stories about Orson Welles' infamous War of the Worlds having been broadcast to increase a sense of paranoia. A second tape in this set, The C.I.A. & Drugs (not previewed), purports to expose a massive CIA drug and weapons smuggling operation. Save your library's budget money for something more substantive. Not recommended. (S. Rees)
