Intended more as scientific exploration than travel teaser, this video's goal is to "piece together the epic life story of North America's most celebrated natural wonder," with emphasis on the forces at work in its creation 125 centuries ago, and the progression it's made since then. Via helicopter, speedboat, high-tech lab, and rope's end, and interviews with Falls historians, waterfall chasers, and search-and-rescue personnel, we discover that Niagara has traveled more than seven miles upriver during its lifetime, and that the canyon etched in its wake provides a geological window into the Earth's past. Filmed with high-definition cameras and formatted in widescreen, this tape was designed as a showcase for HDTV (and will be available on DVD in the summer of 2000), but it looks pretty darn good on regular TV, too. Made with the participation of the Discovery Channel, this program's emphasis on science, rather than on the touristy "ooh, aah" aspects of the Falls, recommends it for nature collections, rather than travel collections. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
