Like Brothers Keeper, the documentary that put Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky on the map, Paradise Lost chronicles a murder investigation and its impact on the community. Three teenagers into heavy metal are the tailor-made suspects when three eight-year-old boys are slaughtered. But like The Thin Blue Line, this harrowing and heartbreaking film makes a good case that the trio, however creepy, are innocent. In a startling turn of events, the stepfather of one of the victims gives to the filmmakers--as a Christmas gift--a hunting knife speckled with his stepson's blood. Highly recommended. (K.
