This two-video program explores the sub-strata of millennium fever: the worrisome mental flu that grips certain segments of the human population every 1,000 years. The first tape, Prophecies & Predictions, inquires into the nature of the coming millennium. Will it bring the end of the world or is it our entrance into a golden age? The second video, Oracles & Revelations, is mainly concerned with bad vibes; i.e., prophecies of doom, chaos, the appearance of the Antichrist, etc., from such sources as The Book of Revelations, Nostradamus and Native American myths. The producers stop short of buying into these bizarre notions, which is a relief, though they were unable to restrain themselves from embellishing the more dire prophecies with an awful lot of death and destruction stock footage. I will allow that listening to Nostradamus "expert" John Hogue trying to squeeze some dire meaning from the bogus work of his jive-talking prophet is quite amusing, but where the rubber meets the road, this project smacks of opportunism. I'm worried that my computer will go to the beach in the year 2000. I'm not worried that the Mayan calendar ends in the year 2012. Good math skills aside, the Mayans practiced blood sacrifice and self-mutilation--not exactly the distinguishing characteristics of enlightened thinkers. Not recommended. Aud: P. (P. Van Vleck)
