Director Jason Kessler's award-winning featurette offers a gripping and poignant look back at the terrorist attacks on NYC on September 11, 2001. Completed within three weeks of the event, the film's focus is on the Ground Zero neighborhood: it's vibrant, healthy past; present destruction; and shaky future. Living less than a mile from the World Trade Center, Kessler simply "left home one morning and looked up,” as the box jacket says--fortunately he had his camera with him, and was able to record the confused reactions of the people in the area following the destruction of the Twin Towers, as well as the impromptu memorials that sprang up in the aftermath, and the beginning steps toward rehabilitation. Although there are other, far less expensive programs on the 9/11 terrorist attacks and reconstruction (such as 9/11: The Filmmaker's Commemorative Edition [VL-9/02], In Memoriam: New York City 9/11/01 [VL-9/02] or America Rebuilds [VL-3/03]), this is still recommended for collections seriously amassing primary source material.
