Learning and behavioral disorders such as dyslexia and ADHD are treated from a familial perspective in Sarah Entine's personal documentary Read Me Differently, which initially recounts how Entine was treated for her own reading disability early in elementary school, and wound up feeling somewhat alienated from her parents and sister. But the focus expands when Entine observes tendencies shared by her mother, Jean, and grandmother, Sylvia, that suggest they also suffered from similar disorders that went undiagnosed. Combining archival footage and stills along with interviews, the documentary turns into a joint biography of: Sylvia, who charmingly recounts major events in her past that might have been affected by her condition; Sarah, who describes similar episodes from her life; and (to a lesser extent) Jean. The overall result is an interesting portrait of three generations of a single family suffering from an unfortunate inheritance related to learning disabilities. Recommended. Aud: C, P. (F. Swietek)
