When we think of Sesame Street, the faces we conjure up belong to muppets and puppets: Kermit the Frog, Bert and Ernie, Big Bird, Oscar, and newcomer Elmo. In this installment of A&E's Biography series, viewers not only see the human faces of the puppeteers who bring the characters to life, but also meet the writers and producers who drive the content of the mega-popular children's show that first debuted in 1969. One of the more humorous moments comes when SS production visionary Joan Ganz Cooney recalls initially meeting the legendary Jim Henson in the turbulent '60s--with his long hair, wild beard and leather vest, Cooney feared that the creator and voice of the gentle Kermit might be a member of a radical student group. With Henson's lovable creations at the forefront of the new educational program for pre-schoolers, the rest, as they say, was history. Chockfull of archival footage and fond interviews with the talented characters, real and imagined, who have charmed, entertained, and--most importantly--taught children for the past 32 years, this is warmly recommended.
