Solar Blast provides the viewer with a dramatic introduction to the physics and structure of our Sun, beginning with geophysical studies of climate fluctuations on Earth that have led scientists to establish an 11-year activity cycle for the Sun. Studying the solar corona and coronal mass ejections (known to most of us as solar flares), scientists at the Mount Wilson Solar Observatory share the results of their work, with particular emphasis on the immediate and long-term effects on our planet. Excellent photographic images, filmed at "Solar Max" (the period of most intense activity during the Sun's 11-year cycle), and exciting animation combine to present a vivid portrait of our Sun and how it affects us, today and in the future. Recommended. Aud: J, H, C, P. (M. Rechel)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
