The Apostles' Creed, a statement of Christian faith summarizing the teachings of the apostles, serves as a link between present and past. The Christian History Institute (a nondenominational organization celebrating its 25th anniversary) has joined producer T.N. Mohan for this two-hour abridged version of a 12-hour series on the Apostles' Creed, featuring an international group of theologians (including Dr. Martin Marty, Dr. N.T. Wright, and Mark Galli, managing editor of Christianity Today) who express a variety of views on each line of the prayer. Unfortunately, as the commentary bounces back and forth among the participants, the program takes on a bit of a disjointed quality, which is not helped by occasionally careless editing (bar lines to indicate cuts, segments ending mid-sentence) and a dearth of supplementary visuals. DVD extras include a PDF leader's guide. Seminary students may be drawn to the academic approach employed here, though general viewers are less likely to be engaged. Optional. Aud: C, P. (J. Reed)
