The times they are a changin'--even within the modern Christian community, as viewers will discover in this lively, fast-paced exploration of innovative and effective expressions of worshiping Christ in a postmodern culture. Narrated by Christian music artist Rebecca St. James, The Changing Face of Worship, presented by FamilyNet (a television ministry of the Southern Baptist Convention), travels around the country to look at: Atlanta's “Revolution” ministry, a Christian outreach program headed up by a tattooed, articulate minister with a pierced lip (who just happens to be Jim Bakker's son!); Minneapolis' “Solomon's Porch,” a holistic Christian community that worships in a homelike setting; and L.A.'s “Mosaic,” a moveable feast with a morning service in a high school and evening worship in a night club. In addition, the program stops in at Arkansas' First Baptist Kids' Church, where the teachings of Christ are buttressed with videos, animation, and interactive elements. Despite the novelty of these approaches, the truths and principles of Christianity are honored (“methodology is negotiable, not the message,” says one interviewee). An engaging look at fresh ways of bringing spirituality to seekers and disaffected youth, this is recommended. Aud: P. (J. Reed)
