MotoGP is “the pinnacle of motorcycle racing,” with each televised race attracting worldwide audiences totaling 300 million people in over 200 countries. The Doctor, the Tornado & the Kentucky Kid covers one such competition, tagged by some observers as the biggest motorcycle race in U.S. history: the 2005 Red Bull Grand Prix staged in Laguna Seca, CA. Ewan McGregor narrates this hard-charging, pulse-pounding documentary, capturing the high-octane excitement of this remarkable competition in 104 fast-paced minutes. Directed by Mark Neale (who also helmed Faster, a similarly-themed 2004 documentary), the film's narrative set-up establishes multiple protagonists and then cuts back and forth between them once the race gets underway. DVD extras on this two-disc set include deleted scenes and an “interactive” feature allowing viewers to switch to different angles thank to cameras mounted directly on the bikes. Recommended. Aud: P.
