While packaged with a bonus audio CD, the focus of this Parents' Choice award-winning compilation featuring NYC-based children's rockers The Jimmies is the live concert DVD “Rock Show Extravaganza.” Headed up by singer Ashley Albert, the band starts things off up with a ditty about how “I can smell my own boogers,” following up with songs such as “Somebody's Birthday,” “The Peanut Butter Polka” (in which Albert interacts with the young crowd over wacky sandwich preferences), “Bedhead,” the banjo-inflected “Punxsutawney Phil” (featuring a groundhog puppet), “Taddy” (about a tadpole), the jazzy “Tuesday Blues,” the rockabilly “Soaper the Scaredy Bot,” and others. Serving up silly songs performed by high-energy musicians (on one number, the “Jimmettes” circulate the room with homemade egg-shaker instruments), Trying Funny Stuff also features accompanying music videos and karaoke sing-alongs, as well as a behind-the-scenes featurette.
