A technically well-done examination of the lives of the Pilgrims and of the events that led to their decision to leave Europe forever and find religious freedom in the New World, The Mayflower Pilgrims tells the story of the newcomers' remarkable passion and insistence on political responsibility which helped set the stage for the American Revolution. Filmed on location in England and using quotes from letters and other documents of Pilgrim leaders, this video is rich in detail and information. Its major drawback--and one that may affect its effectiveness with its intended student audience--is that it's as dull as dillweed, primarily due to a somniferous narration. In the eyes of most Americans, the Pilgrims were dour, colorless people; this video could have done a great deal to change that image if it had just been a bit more lively and creative. An optional purchase. Aud: J, H, P. (J. Carlson)
