Divided into three episodes, The Miracles of Jesus features illusionist Brock Gill, a hip and youthful Christian who wants to know how and why Christ performed miracles. To find the answers, he downloads the Bible to his trusty laptop and travels to the Holy Land to discover where these amazing acts took place. Each segment finds him on the street, displaying his magic skills to casual passersby before getting down to the business of trying to replicate Christ's miracles, drawing on the observations of a variety of experts (identified onscreen as a “psychologist,” “biblical historian,” “biblical theologian,” “meteorologist,” “archeologist,” etc.). Was Jesus a magician? Or a sorcerer? Was the Resurrection a hoax? Gill says no: Christ's miracles could not have been accomplished without massive technical assistance (unavailable at the time), underscoring the claim that Jesus was the son of God. Gill reminds viewers that while many aspects of Christ's ministry 2,000 years ago remain an enigma, his works and words changed lives and continue to inform the faith of Christians today. Granted, the photogenic Gill's Christian apologetics approach is rather superficial, but young audiences will be attracted to the lavishly-produced The Miracles of Jesus, which will enhance their knowledge and promote discussion. DVD extras include a list of miracles recorded in the Bible and a timeline of the life of Jesus. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Reed)
