Although most people are now familiar with the Rutgers female basketball team thanks to the highly publicized insulting remarks made in early 2007 by shock jock Don Imus, six-time Emmy award-winning director Peter Schnall's documentary This Is a Game Ladies (winner of an AFI Silverdocs audience award, among others) truly captures the Scarlet Knights, following the dynamo team during the tumultuous 2001 season as they fight their way to the NCAA finals. Documenting the players both on and off the court (with edge-of-your-seat game footage), the film also features celebrated coach C. Vivian Stringer, who emerged on national television as the team's voice during the Imus flap. As TV Guide mentioned in its review of the film, “You don't have to be a jock…to fall for this documentary,” most viewers will heartily concur. Recommended. Aud: P. (E. Hulse)
