Wow! A film designed for junior high/young adults that manages to be contemporary in its approach without getting cutesy or sacrificing content. Host Jonathan Frakes of Star Trek is an excellent commentator--appropriate for the subject, attractive, and sincere. Through the device of Biblical archaeology ("Time travel with a shovel") we explore people, places and events found in the Old and New Testaments, from Abraham's birth to the beginning of Jesus' public life. These are made to come alive through the use of scientific demonstrations, enactments and breathtaking modern day visits to Biblical sites. We get a feeling for the various ancient cultures that surrounded the events and shaped the character of familiar personages such as John the Baptist, and material is presented in a manner that is credible to a modern mentality. Logical breaks for discussion are indicated. I loved this one. Although it is designed for a Christian audience, anyone interested in the Bible or in visiting the Holy Land would enjoy this. Israel was low on my list of places to visit till now. I'm calling Jerusalem tomorrow. Highly recommended for most collections. (J. Reed)
