Filmmaker Jim Carroll's Touching the Game introduces viewers to one of the most prestigious amateur baseball leagues in the country, the Cape Cod League, which was formed over 60 years ago from 10 Massachusetts communities around the cape, and has sent more than 200 players on to the majors. Representing the crème de la crème from college teams nationwide, the players are invited to join the league and hone their skills, staying with host families and working summer jobs in the towns they play for, while enjoying terrific community support. Following the Cape Cod Baseball League through the summer of 2003, Touching the Game is the centerpiece of a double-disc set that also includes bonus player interviews, a tour of a bat company, music from featured local artists, and an aerial tour of Cape Cod in the summer. Sure to appeal to both baseball aficionados and sports fans in general, this is recommended. Aud: P. (L. Stevens)
