The fun and adventure of trains, the olden days appeal of riverboats, and the thrill of early airline travel are covered in this charming, nostalgic video. The tape provides a brief historical overview of each of these three modes of transportation. While the historicity of the presentation isn't the purest or best (photographs and music don't always match the era being discussed; the impact of railroad and steamboats on the outcome of the Civil War are completely skipped over), it's fun to look at the old photos and film clips, gathered from archives and special collections around the country. There are lots of taped reminiscences with oldsters, including a great interview with a barnstorming pilot and barker. Because this is certain to be popular in public libraries, I'll forgive the producers for not using authentic calliope music during the steamboat section. Highly recommended. The other titles in the series are: Traveling in Style: Automobiles & Trolleys and Radio Days. Together, the 3 titles are being sold for $49.95. (R. Reagan)
