Even open-minded X Files agent Fox Mulder might have trouble swallowing this one. Lacking any shred of skepticism about the origin of UFOs, this slavish propaganda could never be confused with investigative journalism. To begin with, the notion that alien visitors are solely responsible for every upside-down garbage can lid caught sailing through the air is just assumed. Grainy photographs and jerky 8mm home movies are offered here as incontrovertible proof, while testimony from noted paranormal phenomenon buff Erick Von Daniken and alleged alien abductee George Adamski is presented as gospel. The scientific work of historical figures such as Galileo, Kepler, and Newton is contorted to support the program's thesis. Beyond the specious premise, even the technical aspects here are suspect. Often cheesy-looking animation merely provides coverage for pretentious narration that comes off like so much philosophical babble. If the case for UFOs being visitors from outer space is so clear, then how is it that the watchful national news media has failed to dig up the real story? (60 Minutes, where have you been?) The answer is--in a word--conspiracy. Must be a helluva cover-up. Not recommended. (J. Dick)
