Self-esteem is often most fragile during the unstable teenage years, which roughly correspond with the highest incidence (ages 12-20) of eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia. In this straightforward video, hosted by two articulate teens, eye-catching graphics and testimonials are employed to introduce each disorder, after which psychological causes and physical consequences are defined and discussed, mostly through the personal stories of Mindi, a recovering anorexic; Josh, a former bulimic; and the family of Kristen, who died from complications from bulimia. These testimonials will seem very familiar to viewers of Human Relations Media's Understanding Eating Disorders (VL-11/03), as they've been recycled wholecloth here. If you already own the earlier title there's no reason to add this solid, well-produced rehash (with accompanying curriculum that is both thorough and fairly in-depth); if you don't, then this is recommended.
