When two mountaineers discovered a Rolls-Royce engine high in the Andes Mountains in 1988, their find reopened an investigation into one of the great unsolved mysteries of the 20th century: the 1947 disappearance of Stardust, a small passenger plane that vanished minutes after radioing in for landing during a routine four-hour flight from Buenos Aires to Santiago.
