International bestselling Aussie author Deborah Gray (How to Be a Real Witch, Nice Girl's Book of Naughty Spells) hosts Wish on a Spell, a somewhat cheesy look at the world of witchcraft. Gray—who's known as “Australia's Good Witch”—is an expert in “ancient magick,” and here provides viewers with do-it-yourself spells for snaring your perfect soul mate (which includes leaving a “breathy film of mist” on a mirror), getting your dream home through “real estate magic” (you will need a “book of shadows”…or a simple notebook), and turning your enemies into toads (requires garlic and castor oil), as well as whipping up a “Goddess of Love” potion (for an X-rated sex life!). Featuring on-location footage shot in Europe, the British Isles, and Egypt, the program follows Gray as she touches on the history of the craft, the power of potions and elixirs, and the four lunar phases. While often über-dramatic and more than a little factually dubious, there is little doubt that this title will be a popular addition, appealing to a wide range of viewers, from fans of Bewitched to dedicated Wiccans. DVD extras include a 21-minute “Witches Weekend” featurette highlighting Sydney's considerable witch population, a 13-minute interview with the late astrologer Athena Starwoman, and a “bewitched spell” booklet. A strong optional purchase. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
