Alarmist, misleading, one-sided, and other unattractive descriptions came to mind while watching the first three quarters of this video in which "experts" (although their qualifications on this particular topic are never quite spelled out) present a picture of Armageddon-like conditions which will almost certainly befall the world on January 1, 2000. The jacket does not exaggerate the video's content when it refers to "the coming Dark Age," and asks ominous questions such as "Can you survive without a telephone? Electricity? Water?" One "expert" after another foretells the imminent collapse of worldwide systems of banking, power generation, transportation, food production and distribution, and, one can assume, on-line shopping. (Interestingly, the Y2K "bug", or actual computer software/hardware problem responsible for such dire consequences is never discussed.) All became clear, however, toward the end of the video, when one "expert," amid instructions that viewers should begin now to amass a year's supply of freeze-dried food and collect non-hybrid fruit and vegetable seeds, intoned that "Y2K" is something all Christians need to take seriously. Cut to other talking heads defining the "responsibilities of Christians in the coming crisis," admonitions that "we cannot count on being 'raptured up'(?!)", etc. And the final ten minutes or so continue in this vein.Had the producers fairly identified at the outset their perspective (and thus the appropriate audience) for Y2K Millennium Meltdown, it could have been evaluated on those merits. Given the way in which viewers are instead blindsided by this video's hidden agenda, I cannot recommend it. Aud: P. (J. Cichewicz)
