Was Jesus really the Son of God? A question raised by Jesus's contemporaries as well as modern spiritual seekers, one starting point towards an answer would seem to lie in a study of Jesus's Hebraic roots, something the Church has--in narrator/journalist Peter Darg's eyes--failed to do. Producer Marc Villiger's splendid Yeshua/Jesus examines the milieu in which Jesus lived, visiting the Holy Land and observing the modern faithful as they go about their daily lives, celebrating religious festivals almost exactly as was done in Jesus's time. Watching these vignettes, viewers come to understand the prevailing political and cultural influences in biblical Israel, gaining insight into Jesus's “hidden life.” While each of us must still draw our own conclusions regarding the question of Jesus's divinity, this exquisitely photographed, brilliantly edited, balanced and genuinely enlightening program will offer much spiritual food for thought, and should be of interest to believers and non-believers alike. Highly recommended. Aud: C, P. (J. Reed)
