Made-for-TV romantic filler such as director David Strasser’s A Wedding to Remember substitutes amiably for Hallmark Channel fare. In a generic big-city environment (actually Vancouver, in this Canadian feature), Olivia (Cristina Rosato) maintains a community garden started by her parents. She is dismayed to learn the acreage has been slated for conversion to low-income housing, the project overseen by developer Brian (Greyston Holt).
Mutual dislike between (conspicuously single) Olivia and Brian is immediate, especially when they keep encountering each other. The duo is especially shocked when they find themselves both at the same hotel, invited to the wedding getaway weekend of two mutual friends; Olivia is Maid of Honor, while Brian is Best Man. When the bride and groom (Rebecca Olson, Matt Hamilton) start to have serious second thoughts, Olivia and Brian decide to set aside their own disputes to try and rekindle the romance between their friends before the whole marriage ceremony gets called off.
It is all fair, low-key love stuff in the old-school generic Harlequin-paperback tradition, with attractive performers probably not well known to most viewers, and nothing that might offend. In bygone days this material could well go out under a “G” rating. For those same reasons, the undemanding piece may not hold much attention in general film collections (except, perhaps, for Valentine’s Day library programming), but for sentimental patrons in the right mood, there is something to be said in favor of a sedate, agreeable uplifter that gets the job done. Optional for public library collections specializing in romantic comedies.
