It seems that the Barbie computer-animated movie franchise might never run out of steam, at least as long as it keeps presenting films with appealing amalgams of various ‘tween interests, such as this latest entry combining three kitschy elements: dainty monarchs, riot grrrl cool, and summer camp shenanigans. Here, magic-wand-wielding Princess Courtney and famous rock songstress Erika Juno are accidentally switched due to a computer error to attend rival camps on opposite sides of a lake. Castle-like Camp Royalty's head Lady Anne instructs her rapt pupils on stylish behavior, and sunglasses-at-night Finn Oxford directs the cool musicians and dancers of Camp Pop, which is shaped like a giant piano. Of course, each heroine is completely out of her element, and each must learn to make new friends and dodge mean girls, while a sing-off competition between the groups may leave the fate of both camps in jeopardy. Sporting consistently fine production values and high-energy songs, bonus features here include music videos and a motion comic. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
