The most unredeemingly bad film I've seen as a Video Librarian reviewer yet, this "film for anyone who has ever inhaled" centers on the on-again, off-again relationship between a slacker pot dealer (Luke Wilson) and a slacker hanger-on (Alicia Witt), who flees to NYC with a slacker rock star (Jamie Kennedy) after inadvertently torching Wilson's home. As we wait for her return and their inevitable reconciliation we're treated to Witt-less one-liners from Jack's equally clueless friends, including his sarcastic slacker sidekick (Andy Dick), a slacker singing pot farmer (Jack Black), and an "oversexed rich girl" (Brittany Murphy), who at least demonstrates some libidinous spunk. If they had any career sense at all, the aforementioned actors would have hid their faces in their jackets during filming, though the unkempt Witt, who looks like she just climbed out from under the bed, comes off the worst, with a performance so grating it would scare any stoner straight. Bongwater, which makes Cheech and Chong's heady comedies seem positively Coward-esque, is a mighty bad trip. Not recommended. (S. C. Sickles)
