Folk legend Buffalo Bill Cody was a man of contradictions: on one hand, he was a genuine hero of the American West and a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor. But he was also a self-satisfied man who enjoyed his inflated reputation after dime novels, popular New York plays, and Wild West revues turned him into a legend. Somewhere between the bare facts and the hype is an accurate reflection of Cody's true personality and heroic temperament, and Cody! An Evening with Buffalo Bill is actor Peter Sherayko's effort to find the truth. In this one-man stage show, Sherayko brings Cody to life, telling us--among other tidbits--about his friendship with the “kindhearted, worst-tempered” Wild Bill Hickok (and how a journalist conveniently credited Cody with some of Hickok's accomplishments), his time as a buffalo hunter, and his experiences rescuing white women taken captive by hostile Indians. We also see through Cody's eyes the strange experience of watching a play about his life, the pain of losing his son Kit to illness, and the horror of the U.S. campaign against Native Americans.
