What a short, strange trip this is. I confess a weakness for road movies that take a sharp detour from the mainstream. Masatoshi Nagase stars as Atsushi Hirata, who gets sidetracked from a Hawaiian golf holiday when he is compelled to fly to Iceland to honor his parents who drowned there. Signs that ask, "Does anyone know you are going this way?" are a portent of things to come as Atsushi encounters eccentric characters and impenetrable customs. Nagase starred in Mystery Train, which was directed by Jim Jarmusch, with whom this deadpan comedy shares a spiritual kinship. Recommended. (K. Lee Benson)
