The perfect date movie, Ed's Next Move reveals the frail nature of new relationships and the trouble with first impressions. Wisconsin native/rice geneticist Eddie Brodsky (Matt Ross) moves to the Big Apple for a change of pace, right into a mouse-infested apartment with womanizing roommate Ray (Kevin Carroll). While adjusting to the rules of NYC, Ed bumps into a musician named Lee (Callie Thorne) and begins to pursue her romantically, though she's not immediately interested. What's refreshing about this film is its simple sweetness. No one's saving anyone here or dying in the name of love, and the relationship between Lee and Eddie is based on healthy adult companionship and communication, rather than dysfunctional neediness or desperation. While the film's humor may be a bit goofy at times, Ed's Next Move is pure entertainment. Recommended. (L. Russo)
