Abandoned as a baby on the streets of New York City, Fiona (an utterly convincing Anna Thomson) survives an abusive foster home to become a crack-smoking prostitute. Shot in cinema-vérité style with actual streetwalkers playing roles, this sad portrait certainly depicts a de-glamorized picture of the world's oldest profession (no "happy hooker" or "pretty woman" in this sordid scene). Given her degrading experiences with sometimes violent johns, Fiona doesn't exactly have a good attitude towards men, which might explain her turning to another prostitute for romantic relations. With its explicit yet joyless sex acts, drug shooting, and haggard bodies, this is a tough film for a limited audience. Definitely optional. (T. Rich)
