An enthusiastic--if sometimes too serious--insider snapshot of the sweaty, adrenaline-driven, hyper-party atmosphere of San Francisco's red-hot rave scene, Groove captures the boundlessly euphoric spirit of this kinetic musical subculture. Writer-director-editor Greg Harrison focuses too much on a handful of rather uninvolving characters with elementary story arcs, but what the film lacks in personality it makes up for in breathless, caffeinated, fervid presentation, breaking the story into chapters, cunningly introduced by the changing of DJs throughout the all-night fete. If you have a good sound system patched into your VCR/DVD, you'll want to get up and dance your butt off. A strong, optional purchase. (R. Blackwelder)
