A second helping of infantile low-jinks from Adam Sandler and his buddies, Grown Ups 2 is another lazy, plot-less comedy full of gags involving burps, barfing, urine, excrement, and flatulence. Following the events of a single day in the lives of ex-Hollywood bigwig Lenny Feder (Sandler) and his childhood buddies (Kevin James, Chris Rock, and David Spade) in their hometown, the film is nothing more than a succession of crude, vulgar, and extremely stupid sketches, starting with a home invasion by a CGI deer and ending with a big ‘80s costume party at Lenny's house. Most of the cast seems bored; even Sandler slouches through the movie with an air of contempt for the audience, occasionally rousing himself to shout out lines. Representing the absolute nadir is Nick Swardson, who is gross-out insufferable in a minor role as a school bus driver, while Taylor Lautner, of Twilight series fame, wisely goes uncredited here. Not recommended. [Note: DVD/Blu-ray extras include deleted scenes (8 min.), a “Shaq and Dante: Police Force” character segment (2 min.), and trailers. Exclusive to the Blu-ray release are the production featurettes “Look Who Stopped By” on cameos (5 min.), “The Feder House” on set construction (2 min.), “Mr. Spade's Wild Ride” on a stunt (2 min.), and bonus DVD and UltraViolet copies of the film. Bottom line: an unremarkable extras package for a lame sequel.] (F. Swietek)
