Stars: Carl Weathers (Action Jackson, Rocky, TV's "Street Justice"), Jurgen Prochnow (Das Boot, Beverly Hills Cop II), Tony Bonner (Quigley Down Under). Fans of The Last Boy Scout will think they've stumbled onto the set of a Mister Rogers episode--latest "action" film featuring black he-man Weathers is so remarkably tame. Simple plot line has Texan "Hurricane" Smith traveling to Australia in search of his lost sister. Hooking up with a heart of gold hooker and her pimp, Smith takes on drug lord Charlie Dowd (Prochnow) in a battle that rarely rises above name calling until the final reel. A decent boat chase/shootout at the hacienda/helicopter fight finale doesn't really make up for the slow and static opening 3/4ths. Hurricane Smith is being positioned as a good companion film to Weather's Action Jackson; but, whereas Action Jackson was as good as its name, Hurricane Smith could be more aptly called Light Breeze Smith. Audience: For truly non-discerning action fans.
