An unlikely blend of torture porn and psychological thriller, I Know Who Killed Me is dreadful on many levels. Lindsay Lohan stars as smart suburban teen Aubrey Fleming, a promising young writer abducted by a sadistic maniac who amputates her right arm and leg. Managing to escape, Aubrey survives and is later fitted with prosthetic limbs, but the shock of her ordeal takes its toll on her mind, and she now believes herself to be exotic dancer Dakota Moss—a character she invented for one of her stories. Director Chris Sivertson does his best to make sense of scripter Jeff Hammond's patently absurd story, which is resolved in one of the most preposterous denouements captured on celluloid in recent memory. The film squanders the collective talents of its supporting cast, which includes Julia Ormond and Neal McDonough as Aubrey's parents, Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon as a tenacious FBI agent, and Gregory Itzin as a supportive shrink. Lohan (whose Dakota is apparently the only stripper in the business not required to bare her breasts) is a poor choice for the starring role, and this film may well do for her what Showgirls did for Elizabeth Berkley—turn her into even more of a punchline for late-night comedians. Not recommended. [Note: DVD extras include an extended strip dance scene (6 min.), three minutes of bloopers, brief alternate opening and alternate ending segments, and trailers. Bottom line: a paltry extras package for a lame thriller.] (E. Hulse)
