Imagine Me & You

Love-at-first-sight stories are a staple of romantic fantasy, but Imagine Me & You takes the cliché to its utmost by having a bride fall head over heels for a person she barely glimpses in the crowd as she's walking down the church aisle to say her vows. And there's a twist: the object of her lightning affection is another woman—the wedding florist. Will the newlywed repress her feelings and stay with her loving, good-natured new husband? Or will she follow her heart, even though it will destroy her marriage? And can the florist, no less smitten, fend off the advances of the best man, who considers himself irresistible, while also keeping her distance from the new bride? The lesbian aspect of writer-director Ol Parker's film is no shocker in our enlightened age; unfortunately, so little of what happens is either remotely credible or particularly charming (the attraction between the two women is never really established, so it comes across as a schoolgirl crush instead of a driving passion). There's a sort of cinematic tradition that says movies with titles taken from pop songs will turn out to be bombs, and this one certainly upholds it. Not recommended.
