Starring the soon-to-be-major film actress Liv Tyler, the always reliable and interesting Kathy Baker, and a too old for the role Joaquin Phoenix, this is the absorbing story of the wrong-side-of-the-tracks Holt brothers and their fascination with the affluent and affected Abbott sisters. Set in the late 1950s in small-town Illinois and the University of Pennsylvania, the movie poignantly handles all the usual coming-of-age issues. Warmly recommended. (K. Glaser)
