A genuinely boring slasher flick about Friday the 13th's Jason Voorhees in outer space?!? Stupid, sure. Badly acted? I'd expect nothing less. Not scary? Well, let's face it: none of the Friday the 13th movies have really been all that scary. But boring? Unfortunately, yes. The "plot": Jason thaws out of a cryogenic freeze in 2455 and starts cutting up the casting couch bimbos that comprise a good portion of the crew onboard the research space ship from the unimaginatively named Earth II. Given this 'future schlock' setup, you'd figure that newbie director James Issac would go for the laughs, but if that was his intention, he's even less talented than the actors. Even after Jason gets a robotic upgrade in the last 10 minutes, and goes on a silly rampage that pays homage to the original film, it's still not clear if this movie is bad on purpose or just plain bad. One thing's for sure, however: it never comes close to being either funny or scary. Not recommended. [Note: DVD extras come in the form of an "All Access Pass" which includes audio commentary by director Jim Isaac, writer Todd Farmer and producer Noel Cunningham; a 28-minute "The Many Lives of Jason Voorhees" documentary on the origins of the Jason flicks, a 16-minute "By Any Means Necessary" making-of featurette, a trailer, and the crude feature "Jump to a Death," complete with "kill all" or "kill random" options. Bottom line: an extensive extras package in the service of a really stupid film.] (R. Blackwelder)
