This Disney original movie is the perfect showcase for talented 18-year-old Lee Thompson Young, who reprises his title role from TV's The Famous Jett Jackson. For those who don't tune in, Jett Jackson is just your average teen--who happens to play the role of popular hard-edged TV action hero Silverstone for a series filmed in Jett's hometown. Jett Jackson: The Movie begins with Jett's growing frustration at missing the simple pleasures of adolescence, as adoration from fans and hectic work schedules begin to take their toll. When Jett falls victim to a freak accident with the time-space continuum prop on the futuristic Silverstone set, resulting in a switch of identities (from Jett to Silverstone, and vice versa), the swap leaves Jett struggling against Silverstone's nemesis Dr. Kragg (dastardly portrayed by Michael Ironside) and puts intensely arrogant butt-kicker Silverstone into Jett's life…going to school, carrying groceries, and managing Jett's love life. While some far-fetched concepts and a disappointing ending detract a bit, Young's adept performance and exceptional knack for comic timing, coupled with the solid concept, will make this a big hit with long-standing Jett Jackson fans and newcomers alike. Highly recommended. (J. Williams)
