"A thing of beauty is a joy forever…" It's a well-known line of poetry, but perhaps the details of the author's life are not as familiar. John Keats: A Glorious Romantic offers a Masterpiece Theatre-style dramatization of the life and poetry of John Keats (1795-1821), revealing biographical tidbits about the sensitive author who died at a tragic young age, while serving up 13 performances of Keats' poems, including the classics "Ode to a Nightingale" and "Ode on a Grecian Urn." Presented by very capable actors in period costume, this is likely to strike students as rather slow-paced, but at least they'll gain some historical context for the works and put a human face to the words in their textbooks. Recommended, overall. [Note: also newly available in Monterey's Master Poets collection at the same price are: Lord Byron: A Glorious Romantic, Percy Bysshe Shelley: A Glorious Romantic and Love Conquers All: Glorious Romantics.] Aud: H, C, P.
