Ostensibly based on the popular and wholesome ‘70s kiddie show, Land of the Lost is a crass, boorish, and utterly lame comedy that sinks to new lows of puerility, including star Will Ferrell repeatedly dousing himself with dinosaur urine. Ferrell plays Dr. Rick Marshall, a disgraced scientist who, along with doctoral student Anna Friel and dimwitted tour guide Danny McBride, is sucked into a time warp and deposited in a place where “past, present, and future mash up together.” The trio struggle to find a way back while dodging dinosaurs, cavemen, and alien invaders (!). Director Brad Silberling should have been credited as “enabler,” because he unfortunately lets Ferrell run wild: scenes that aren't funny to begin with are stretched to almost unendurable lengths while the star mugs outrageously. An alleged family-friendly comedy, Land of the Lost includes scenes of Ferrell reaching into his pants to pleasure himself, and a curious caveman fondling Friel's breasts. More appropriately titled Land of the Losers, this is not recommended. (E. Hulse)
