A funeral for his estranged father brings Philadelphia advertising executive Will (Josh Hopkins) back to the title town in this low-key family drama. At the memorial service, Will reconnects with his widowed Catholic cousin Andy (Ian Merrill Peakes), and Andy's two kids, including 17-year-old CJ (Rachel Kitson), who finds out she's pregnant just as she's preparing for college. During the trip, Will also strikes sparks with Vicki (Samantha Mathis), a married high school teacher weighing an offer to work in the city. Will's mother Jennette (Mary Beth Hurt) doesn't understand why her son doesn't just wrap up his dad's affairs and get on with his life, but Will finds CJ, Vicki, and the remnants of the past more compelling than his dead-end job, which he risks losing the longer he stays away. Although Will doesn't offer high school senior CJ advice about her predicament, she finds it easier to talk to him than old-fashioned Andy, who wants her to have the child. The comparisons to Juno are inevitable, but writer-director Ben Hickernell doesn't try as hard to seem cool, which may make Lebanon, PA. less fun but also more realistic. Recommended. (K. Fennessy)
