MediaRights, a non-profit organization disseminating the work of a group of independent multimedia makers, hosts an online annual film festival promoting innovative short films on social issues. Media That Matters Film Festival 3, co-presented by the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival, is the first compilation to be made available on DVD (in conjunction with the Sundance Channel) and features 12 short (ranging from 30 seconds to nine minutes) juried film festival selections (as well as four other multimedia pieces--a sound archive, interactive website, etc.) on topics such as racial stereotypes ("Is My Neighbor Latino?"), police brutality ("Cop Watch"), sexual abuse ("As We Sleep"), environmental issues ("Diane Wilson, A Warrior's Tale"), and corporate accountability ("Vision Test"), among others. Not only are the outstanding shorts presented here thought-provoking, they also employ creative approaches to raising awareness of various social issues (and the price of $6 to cover shipping and handling can't be beat). Highly recommended. Editor's Choice. [Note: Fourth Annual Media That Matters Film Festival, the latest in the series, is available from www.nationalfilmnetwork.com for $29.95.] Aud: H, C, P. (L. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
