After only five minutes spent around the noisy breakfast table with the Polish-American family, the Pzoniaks, I yearned to be reunited with the Castorinis in Moonstruck. I did not like the Pzoniaks: not matriarch Jadzia (a miscast Lena Olin), a ravishing cleaning woman; not patriarch Bolek (Gabriel Byrne), a sullen baker who works nights and who rightly suspects his hot-to-scrub wife is having an affair; not the four sons, interchangeable stereotypical lugs; not even the usually radiant Claire Danes as teenaged high school dropout Hala, whose unplanned pregnancy will further strain family ties and make her not the ideal choice to lead the local church procession of the Holy Virgin. Not recommended. (K. Lee Benson)
