Taking my cue from the Dashwood sisters, I can be passionately romantic like Marianne and swoon over this exquisite story of thwarted and unrequited love, brilliantly acted, elegantly costumed and set against the lush, windswept English countryside. Or, I can be practical like Elinor and merely cite the many awards this adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel has won, including the Academy Award for Best Screenplay for Emma Thompson. Either way, this peerless example of prestige filmmaking is highly recommended, and one would think given its literary source, essential for libraries. Editor's Choice. (K. Benson)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
