In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Slap Shot, the infamous hockey movie which crossed the blue line in terms of profanity, comes Slap Shot 2: Breaking the Ice. In this new and no less foulmouthed sequel, the likeable Chiefs have been sold to the fictional Omaha-based Family Channel, whose notorious head of programming (Gary Busey) has plans to take the violence out of hockey by making it a kind of Harlem Globetrotters on ice, pitting the Chiefs against a bunch of clean cut ivy league boys…with predictable results. While there are a few fun twists in this film, and some genuine laugh-producing raunchiness, this is ultimately--like many sequels--little more than rehashed leftovers. Not a necessary purchase. (R. Ray)
