Not just another showbiz biopic, Take Me Home is an unexpectedly soulful adaptation of John Denver's autobiography of the same name, with Chad Lowe delivering a hearty yet ultimately devastating performance as the public and private Denver, an against-the-grain, singer-songwriter who eschewed rock trends to record songs that lifted everyone's spirits but his own. Costarring Kristin Davis (Sex and the City) as Denver's first wife, Annie, who watches this talented, kind man descend into isolation and alcoholism, this is a fine drama that embraces Denver's contradictions without belittling him. Recommended. (T. Keogh)
